Pleasurable sex for vulva owners!

When we talk about sex, we need to address the anatomical differences and personal preferences between individuals and what activities brings them pleasure. Research on the orgasm gap shows that 95% of heterosexual men regularly reach orgasm during sex; compared to 65% of women. 98% of homosexual women report regular orgasm during partnered sex, suggesting that it is the culture and heterosexual script for sex that leads to inequity in the bedroom.

Up to 70% of vulva owners cannot reach orgasm from penetrative sex alone and need clitoral stimulation to reach orgasm. If you are a vulva owner that cannot reach orgasm by penetration alone, you’re in the majority of the population and are totally normal, as well as those who can. Although the clitoris can be stimulated internally with pressure on the ‘g-spot’ through penetration with toys, fingers or a penis, the external glans clitoris is the most sensitive part of the clitoris.

The glans clitoris is a bulb shaped structure at the top of the vulva, and is the only external part of the clitoris. It is protected by a layer of skin (clitoral hood), enlarges with arousal and has over 8000 nerve endings. This is twice as many as the amount found on the head of a penis! You can stimulate your or partner/s clitoris during partnered sex by engaging in oral sex, using your fingers or a toy like a vibrator directly on the external glans clitoris. You can also do this during penetrative sex for dual stimulation which has been shown to lead to a more pleasurable sexual experience.
